Activities

Avalon is situated on 400 acres of river flats and rolling to steep bush. We adjoin Biriwal Bulga National Park so the potential to keep walking is pretty limitless!

We have 4 kilometres of river frontage to swim, fish, paddle or play in.

We are also lucky enough to have a pristine rainforest creek environment bisecting the property – it’s about a 4-hour boulder hopping journey past pools and waterfalls to the impassable point and we are home to no end of native wildlife – looking for koalas is very time consuming but does result in a stiff neck! Watching the platypus is easier and more meditative!

One of our favourite things to do is kayak slowly along our entire riverscape and just let the river take us at its own gentle speed – traversing 4km takes about 90 minutes!

While you are at Avalon you can:

  • feed the chooks & collect the eggs
  • sit quietly and wait for a platypus to pop up (breeding season is normally August)
  • stroke the velvety noses of the horses and let them breathe all over you
  • cuddle a cow
  • explore the pristine rainforest and creek
  • fish for bass, kayak, paddle or swim in the river
  • hike high in the hills and look for koalas
  • run or walk over rolling pasture

If you want to roam, nearby you will find:

  • Port Macquarie for gorgeous beaches, whale watching and essential supplies.
  • Ellenborough Falls, stunning 200m waterfall (second longest single drop waterfall in the southern hemisphere) with a lovely swimming hole for hot days.
  • Comboyne Plateau: see one of the food bowls of Australia. Comboyne’s rich red soil grows blueberries, avocados, potatoes & grass for beef and dairy cows. Rolling landscape, up to ten degrees cooler. (550 – 750 metres above sea level)
  • Rawson Falls & Boorganna Rainforest – incredibly beautiful walk.

Great getaway!
We highly recommend staying at Avalon.
Sophie and Ben are such lovely people, and were so happy to show us round the farm and answer all our questions. We loved walking through the rain forest and swimming in the creek… we even caught a tasty bass for dinner.
The highlight was definitely the animals… they are all so friendly! A great escape into the country.
