FAQ

Some people really worry about coming to the country and we always want to make you feel comfortable and safe so please find below answers to some of those frequently asked questions and concerns:

Do YOU HAVE WIFI?
The Tree House is connected to our Starlink wifi.  Elsewhere on the property mobile service is patchy and dependent on your carrier,  If you are camping and need signal you can always come to the house to check in.
Will i see a platypus?
Sophie will make sure you do!  Platypuses are a lot smaller than most people imagine and it can take a while to ‘get your eye in’.  Sophie will show you the best spots to sit and wait and can show you a few platypus so you know what to look for and soon become expert at spotting them in all the pools.  Most Australians will never see a platypus in the wild, so this is a truly magical and unforgettable experience.
CAN I CATCH A BASS?

Yes you can!  Bass season runs from September to March and the river is full of them – leaping, rising, and hungry for your lures.  We look forward to seeing your smiles once you have caught a few.

Do we have Koalas?

We do, up in the bush.  They are very very hard to spot as they sleep during the day.  But you are welcome to try.  Otherwise, we highly recommend www.billabongzoo.com.au where you can stroke one and learn about all Australian wildlife.

How do I spot a platypus?

Platypus normally feed in the early morning and late afternoon/dusk.

If you sit quietly by the river, by one of the deeper pools, you will often at first see rings in the water.  Once you have seen those, wait until the platypus pops up again.

They paddle on the surface for a minute before diving back down for more food.

A Platypus is only about 12 inches long so they are hard to spot but patience is rewarded – we can tell you the best places to see one most days.

What Bait or Lures should I bring?

Meat for eels and lures for Bass (in season)

Can I bring my motorbike?

Absolutely NOT!  Avalon is a quiet and peaceful place where the only sounds we like are the burbling of the river and the trilling of the birds.

Can I bring my bicycle?
Of course.  But it is undulating country so bring your strong legs too!
Can I bring my dog/horse/cat or other pet?

Sorry, no.

The welfare of our animals is our top priority.  Alpacas hate and will chase dogs.  Non-rural dogs will often chase sheep, alpacas and cattle, and there are roaming wild dogs who can attack.  So please leave your pets at home.

Can I bring my kayak?

Of course, or we have kayaks for your use (for free), so you don’t have to lug yours all the way here!  If you have a life jacket please bring that as we only have a few here.
